Malaysian Ladies Golf Association

PERSATUAN GOLF WANITA MALAYSIAN or better known as MALGA, MALAYSIAN LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION, was inaugurated on 15 March 1983 as the result of the foresight and hard work of one special lady, the late Mrs Mary Williams.

Apart from Mrs Mary Williams, the three other ladies who were involved in the formation of MALGA were H.R.H. Tunku Ampuan of Negeri Sembilan, Y.A.M. Tunku Tun Maimunah Sultan Ismail and Ms Tan Siew Lay. H.R.H. Tunku Ampuan became the patron of MALGA. The other three ladies became the Life Members of MALGA since then. The first President of MALGA was Y Bhg Datin Maria Musa. Other personalities include Ms Jennifer Loh, Fatimah Ramlan Harun, Puan Sri Lee Eng Lin, Grace Chew, Aminah Yusof and Vimala Arokiasamy. All these respectable ladies have contributed their time, effort and finance towards the setting up of MALGA. The common intention was to work for the benefit of this National Body.

Not forgetting Mrs Mary William's husband also made a difference for MALGA to become a reality. We must also give credit to Justice Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Hamid, the President of Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) at that period of time, who supported the existence of MALGA and the first constitution was drawn up with the assistance of MGA. With the support from MGA, it reinforced the formation of MALGA as it showed the confidence in the ability of women to run their own show.

In 1993, MALGA came under the care of the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia.

Only through the support and encouragement of all women golfers, can MALGA grow into an effective organization to cater for the interest of the women's golf in Malaysia.
